More than ten years ago I happened to visit a good long time friend of mine who lives in the Hill Country of Central Texas in the spring. In his “back yard” (of several acres), there happened to be some Nemastylis geminiflora blooming. I snagged a bulb from him, but obviously didn’t grow it properly because it only came back once then disappeared. Anyway, I happened to visit them again earlier this year and asked them to keep a look out for them. They just texted me some photos of several small beds of them that are in flower which they said I could share with you. Dear Lee and all, Although Nematastylis grows fairly close to where I live in Kansas City, it is all but invisible unless you are fortunate enough to spot it in bloom during its brief flowering season. Then it demands you stop and take a look at its beauty. I have collected a few bulbs and sent to friends over the years and tried it here in my garden in various spots. I have never been able to get it established. It is a beauty and worth a spot even with its brief ephemeral bloom season. Lee, Have you had success growing it in CA ? Best Jim W.
