Hi Norton, to my experience, Tigridias are quite easy for germination, summer should be OK - I had them germinate at room conditions at any time of the year, though I prefer spring for them to get enough light after germination - that's more of a middle European problem i guess. Your Tigridias are still well inside the time limit - 30 to 40 days are not uncommon for T. Pavonia. I'm interested in the "morphological difference" - T.Pavonia should be an introduced species on the southern continent, though it could have happened in pre-colonial times, so the change could be isolation-induced. I doubt that the south American Tigridias had any influence, as they are currently discussed to belong to Mastigostyla no matter how Tigridia-like they are morphologically. It has only been reported to grow in "lomas" of Lima, an ecosystem characteristic for being dry for 6 months (summer), and wet & covered by vegetation the other 6 (winter). The leaves start growing in June, the flowers appear from August to October, and seeds can be collected from October to November. Pollinators include flies and Pesis wasps also called Tarantula Hawk. > > > I sowed the seeds in premix soil about a month ago, but havent seen anything happen. It is summer in Peru.
