Most of these plants tolerate rain throughout the year in England, but demand excellent drainage in wet Summers. They flower at the end of their growth when there are few roots left, and grow roots fairly late in Autumn despite being in damp conditions. I think of them as growing from mid Winter to early Summer, rather than being strictly winter growing. Of course I have grown them perfectly well under glass too, with a very dry Summer.
