I would guess that reticulata cultivars show quite a wide range of behavior in cultivation, given that they're hybrids involving multiple species. In the nursery here, straight Iris histrioides selections often seem to outperform reticulata cultivars. All reticulata species and hybrids spend most of the year in Anderson flats (16x16 inch, 5.5-inch deep) in a coarse, mostly organic mix.
