Hi All: I am writing to request your advice, ideas and support with a very exciting project. The Chicago Botanic Garden is in the early planning stages of creating a Southern Hemisphere Bulb 'WOW' (extravaganza) for the winter of 2013 at the Garden. The event will have available small Arid, Subtropical and Tropical habitats focused display greenhouses as well as indoor spaces. The Winter Flower Shows to date typically incorporate the featured plants in the habitats with more formal designed exhibits in the indoor display areas. The scale of these winter shows is fairly large, the recent orchid show featured 10,000 plants in full flower, for instance. So, what are the 'must haves'? Who should we contact to get these treasures? I "think" we have enough time to grow many bulbs from seed to flowering size if we start now but we are also interested in obtaining fully mature, flowering sized bulbs as well. The Garden has a wonderful library and we have access to number of online resources but - they are hard put to equal the expertise found in this group. Many thanks, Boyce Tankersley Director of Living Plant Documentation Chicago Botanic Garden 1000 Lake Cook Road Glencoe, IL 60022 email:///btankers@chicagobotanic.org
