overcoming self incompatibility

This is a very interesting topic & I am going to try at least some of them on my frustrating trilliums that seem quite reluctant to self. However, most of the comments that I have seen don’t really talk about which species/genera/families it might or might not work in. Is there a general reference or comments from someone who has some knowledge about this?
