No, I grow three plants in an earth box (http://earthbox.com/) in full shade on the north side of my house. If night temps get below 38 or so, I bring the box into the house. They do fine. I don’t get a lot, but then I don’t need a lot! I’m in the Seattle area, so they generally like the climate just fine.
