This question has been raised numerous times before and the general consensus always seems to be to encourage growth to keep out of dormancy for as long as possible, particularly in climatic zones that are far removed from the plant's own. I understand Jim Shields is a strong proponent of this approach and it has worked well for him using the artificial lighting and additional warmth in very cold Indiana. On the other hand, in my milder climate in Melbourne, Australia (no snow, few if any frosts and the ground certainly never freezes!) seeds of recalcitrant species such as this obtained from the northern hemisphere seem to quite happily grow through what would be their first season of dormancy without any assistance.
