Hi Martin,

Mike Mace gathered together lots of information from this list over
the years and from other sources about how to grow bulbs from seed
and added it to the wiki:
http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/…

It's a treasure trove of information. Read over the section on
Amaryllids. Seedlings can usually be grown on without a dormancy in
their first year and sometimes longer. So keep them watered until
they show signs of wanting to go dormant.

Brunsvigia grandiflora has adjusted to growing on a different
schedule for us in Northern California. It has been an exception to
other South Africans Amaryllids that at least I have grown as they
eventually were growing in the time frame you would expect. Here it
has bloomed from November to December for me and November at the
University of California Botanical Garden and another Northern
California friend has one blooming right now. So it must be one of
those species that responds to moisture.
I made a note on the entry for it on the wiki that my plants bloomed
in December in the Northern Hemisphere in our late fall-winter and
weeks later on a trip to South Africa I saw it blooming in the wild
in their summer.

Mary Sue
