Andrew, It is interesting experiment. We had unusual rainy days this summer. It was quite heavy rain yesterday. It never happened so far. Usually no rain over 6 months after April. I live in Southern California almost 20 years. Belladonna flowers are sign of ending sumer, bloom at the end of Summer time.
