Travis is right, even Cannas that are common herbaceous perennials are sold with other non bulbs like daylilies, lily of the valley, Incarvillea, hostas, phloxes and peonies by the Dutch trade. Heliconias are absurd as bulbs and even so they are in the wiki. Of Geraniums there are ppssibly four species that are true bulbs (Geraniums, not Pelargoniums, of which there are a good number with bulbs). Dieramas and watsonias are typical examples of bulbs that can not be dessicated as the damage would be considerable. > From: enoster@hotmail.com > Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2015 11:55:57 -0800 > To: pbs@lists.ibiblio.org > Subject: [pbs] To "bulb" or not to "bulb" > > To be fair, Peonies, daylillies, lily of the valley, and even geraniums are sold alongside lilies, ixia, Crocosmia, and other "summer bulbs". The newcomer may want to look to the PBS wiki to know how to grow them. The genera above are certainly handled like bulbs, though not truly defined as "bulbs". > > Lastly, to say "a bulb should be able to be dug and left to dry" is ridiculous, many species that have true bulbs would die if you did that. > > -Travis Owen > Rogue River, OR > > http://amateuranthecologist.blogspot.com/ > _______________________________________________ > pbs mailing list > pbs@lists.ibiblio.org > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/
