What I was trying to get people to realize is that transliteration depends on an interaction between both sound of the source language (not the spelling) and the orthographic conventions and sounds available in the target language. And as you pointed out, to indicate the English sound "sh" in German, one writes "sch". And if he had been English he would have written Pushkinia, as a late friend who spoke a Slavic language did.
