The word is species.

> The question then, is B. disticha a single specie? Or is one a subspecie of the other? Or could it be an opportunistic specie when it come to water availability?

As with many young plants, the seedlings can be opportunistic growers. However, in my experience, mature bulbs from summer rainfall regions grow in summer, those from winter rainfall grow in winter. I grow my summer rainfall bulbs outdoors in Southern California, and they do not leaf out or grow in winter, despite getting rainfall at that time. More consistent flowering is also achieved when the 'native' watering pattern for a particular plant is followed.
