Since S. madeirensis is a geographic name (for the Island of Madeira), it should be written as such. All other spellings would be treated as orthographic errors and needs to be corrected. The only exception for mispelling being acceptable is when Linnaeus uses it (yes, he is the taxonomic god so everything that he does is considered correct). Kew is pretty good at this stuff and I would trust their spelling.
