John - FWIW, I have now bought Calochortus "Symphony" twice, from two different online suppliers (each essentially "flybynightbulbs.com") and got different species each time. The first order turnd out to be C. catalinae (thanks for the ID Jane), and the second time I got C. uniflorus. Note that "Symphony" derives from the ancient Greek συμφωνία which meant "just send whatever bulbs we have lying around" > On May 23, 2014, at 3:30 PM, Jane McGary <janemcgary@earthlink.net> wrote: > > John Wickham asked > > Does anyone know the species of Calochortus 'Symphony'? I can't find any references on-line that provide a species level identification of this plant. It has some resemblance to C. catalinae, but I've never grown the plant and haven't been able to key it out. > >> The PBS Wiki suggests that this is a pink flowered form of C. venustus, but all other on-line resources show C. However, I think that at one time a mixture of Calochortus was sold under that name. I am too tired to look it up (just got home from Japan) but as I recall the color of the anthers is distinctive. > > Jane McGary > > _______________________________________________ > pbs mailing list > pbs@lists.ibiblio.org > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/ _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.ibiblio.org http://pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/
