Diane got it right; the stigma are those little flap/lip-like things. You put the pollen on the inner surface. You'll find that the stigmas on M. tripetala are incredibly small, just tiny little nubs near the tip of the anther. On M. gigandra, the stigmas are at the top end of the crest.
