No, Eucharis amazonica doesn't need much sun. I had it flowering several times a few years ago. I had it growing inside as a pot plant. I remember I didn't do any chopping. Maybe you didn't water it enough or you fertilized it too much. As far as I remember I only feed it in growing season - using ordinary fertilizer.
