I was expecting Gladiolus caryophyllaceus to smell like a carnation, but the one I sniffed didn't. It was a few years ago, probably in South Africa . I think it had a musty smell, and was disappointing enough that I decided not to grow it. It is worthwhile checking further about many flowers which are described as being 'scented'. Some of the scents can be unpleasant. Diane Whitehead Victoria, British Columbia, Canada On 2012-10-06, at 4:00 PM, Randall P.
