I am deeply saddened to hear that Charles has passed, he was a font of knowledge on South African plants, and made so many unique discoveries. His many articles and books on the flora added much to the collective knowledge of how many species grow in the wild and often offered tips on cultivation as well. I particularly enjoyed his thoroughness and attention to detail in anything he wrote. I myself owe him a major debt of gratitude for the material he sent me while I was engaged in my doctoral research on tissue culture and hybridization of geophytic and xerophytic pelargonium species, some of which I still grow today. I also had the pleasure of meeting him once on a visit to South Africa as well. He has left us much too early and he will be missed,

Greetings,

I am sad to report that the Penroc website states that Charles Craib died
Monday (March 19) of a heart attack. Apparently the business of Penroc will
continue via the Nieuwoudts but the man himself is irreplaceable.
