Most of the seeds I grow are of bulbs, because I found broad-leaved seedlings which need pricking out and then potting on time after time into larger and larger pots just take up too much lateral space. Bulbs, being skinny (usually) can be jammed into much less space. However, until they flower, they are boring. Now I have an exciting one - Oxalis sp ex CMW4199, from this year's Scottish Rock Garden Club exchange. They germinated quickly and already have clusters of thick trifoliate leaves and thick white cylindrical roots right at the surface of the soil. Diane Whitehead
