Hello Nancy, > I live in the Phoenix AZ area > and am interested in bulbs that grow in the fall, winter > and spring and are dormant in the summer.... Welcome to our group. There are a number of PBS members in the metro Phoenix area. There isn't a local Phoenix bulb group but many of us belong to the Central Arizona Cactus and Succulent Society. After all, to survive a long dry warm summer a plant is probably succulent, and most of these winter-growing bulbs grow cheek by jowl alongside more traditional succulents, like mesembs or euphorbias. Meetings are the last Sunday of most months including this one, 2 pm at the Desert Botanical Garden, in Webster Auditorium. During this season many of us bulbophiles bring in blooming plants for show and tell and we are recruiting more converts all the time. In October 2010 we held a bulbs-from-seed workshop. Our October meeting is an auction of plants propagated by members, and I usually bring in containers of bulbs just sprouting for the season. http://www.centralarizonacactus.org/ AS for the rest of you on the list... you might find bulbophiles or potential bulbophiles at your local cactus club.
