I would like to invite PBS and list members living in the Portland, Oregon area to the annual pot show of the Columbia-Willamette chapter of NARGS, which will take place at 7 pm on Tuesday evening, March 20, at the SMILE Center, 8210 S.E. 13th Ave., Portland. This meeting hall is one block south of the intersection of SE 13th Avenue and Tacoma Street in the Sellwood neighborhood and can be easily reached from Highway 43 via the Sellwood Bridge or by Highway 99E (McLoughlin Blvd) via Tacoma Street west. This is a non-competitive show and always features a lot of bulbs. Several knowledgeable members will discuss the different groups of plants shown. Admission is free to all, and non-members are welcome to bring plants in containers to add to the display. Refreshments and door prizes will be available too! If you would like to bring plants, please clean the outside of the pots and supply a clearly legible label on card stock or something similar so that people can read the plant's identity without pulling your permanent label. On April 17 the NARGS chapter will host Austrian plantsman Fritz Kummert at the same venue. He grows many kinds of plants but has a special interest in geophytes, notably Juno irises. Again, non-members are welcome to attend. We will also have surplus seed packets from the NARGS seed exchange to distribute to NARGS members free, and to non-members for a small cost. If you have any questions, please write to me directly, not to the forum, Best regards, Jane McGary President, Columbia-Willamette Chapter janemcgary@earthlink.net
