Roland, I agree with you that the second image shows stamens that are less exserted than those of the first, which seems to be more like what one expects with C. montanus. The figure of C. montanus in Reid & Dyer does show the stamens that would be consistentwith that. However, there is no mention of that characteristic in the species description. So, on this basis I cannot draw a conclusion. It may be that Bill Dijk used a form of C. montanus that accentuated that appearance for his hybrids C. elatus x C. montanus would seem to show it also.
