Hi Kipp Your timing is awesome in that all the South African bulbs are just now starting to open up. They should be in full glory over the next two weeks. You might also want to visit Rancho Soledad (Rancho Santa Fe), C and J Cactus (Vista). Jim Duggan, TheBulbMan.com is almost next door to Rancho Soledad but he doesn't often welcome visitors. You could ask. His specialty is south african bulbs. I know a huge field of Urginea maritima that may or may not be available to visit - I could inquire if you were interested. Be sure to stop by San Diego Botanic Garden (formerly Quail Gardens) in Encinitas. I'll think about what else might interest you in terms of rare and unusual. Unfortunately, we've lost many of the wonderful and odd places San Diego was once so famous for. Nan PS I thought I knew all the nurseries in San Diego area but Rare Succulents is a new one to me! I'll be going next week. I know about Arid Lands, Grigsby Cactus and Petra Crist/Rare Succulents. I have a large african bulb collection (primarily winter growers) and I collect strange succulents and caudiciforms of all types. I'd love some additional recommendations of where to go - especially any specialists growers who would be available. I have an open schedule and an open route - so tell me anything/anywhere good. > Thanks for tips,-|<ipp > PS: If anyone from the Bay Area is interested in an ardently focused and somewhat whirlwind trip to nurseries from Tuscon to Vista next week, let me know ;-) > > _______________________________________________ > pbs mailing list > pbs@lists.ibiblio.org > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php > http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/ >
