The discussion of an article on Chile's flora in the handsomely produced quarterly magazine Pacific Horticulture impels me to ask once more for input on a topic I raised last spring. I'd like to write an article for it on growing Fritillaria, but since PH focuses on California, I feel inadequately prepared to write this piece. My experience growing the plants has been entirely in the Pacific Northwest. I asked before what experience our many California members had with Fritillaria, but received only two answers, neither of them very encouraging. Yet I know (having grown up in California and often visiting family there) that many species in addition to the native ones should do well in California gardens. Could more of you who grow Fritillaria species in mild Mediterranean climates please write, either to this forum or to me privately, discussing your results? I will not quote any posts or private correspondence without the express permission of the writers. Thank you! Jane McGary Portland, Oregon, USA
