My climate and Mary Sue's isn't very different but my Orthrosanthus chimboracensis has already set seeds (they're on their way to the BX right now actually). Hesperoxiphion peruvianum is a wonderful plant. I've had it for three years in a 1 gallon pot, and it refused to bloom for me until this year when I put it into a larger 3 gallon pot. The flowers as Mary Sue said are large, elegant, and beautiful. The only drawback is that it opens at 9am and fades about noon. It is still worth growing though. Look for it in a future BX because Mary Sue usually sends in seed and I will too this winter. Here is a photo. It is pollinated by hoover flies in my growing area: http://flickr.com/photos/xerantheum/… Nhu Berkeley, CA where rain and cool nights are waking up many bulbs.
