I grow Calochortus syntrophus and it is a beautiful species and one that usually blooms for me. It has been my experience that like a lot of bulbs, not every Calochortus bulb comes up every year and even the ones that do come up don't always bloom. Living in an area with very high rainfall and winter humidity I do much better with some species than others. Although I haven't done an exact study on this, I think, as might be expected, I do better with ones that come from areas where they would get more rainfall during their growing season. Even if I grow some of the southern California species sheltered from the rain, they don't perform well. I have had very poor luck with Calochortus I have planted in the ground, even the ones that are native to the area where I live. Those same species do fine in deep wooden pots exposed to the elements. Mary Sue Mary Sue Ittner California's North Coast Wet mild winters with occasional frost Dry mild summers
