I just noticed that another bulb is blooming: Galtonia (a.k.a. Ornithogalum) candicans is in bloom. This bulb is hardy, growing in an outdoor bed here. Regardless of which genus you prefer to put it in, it is one of the rare South African bulbs that seems to really be hardy here. Two of its Galtonia congeners turned out not to be so hardy for me outdoors here in central Indiana. We got about 0.75 inch of rain last night, so I have hopes that we might yet see blooms this season from Hymenocallis occidentalis and the various hardy Lycoris I have here. That was the first significant rain in about 3 weeks. I think our total rainfall for July is still no more than about 1 inch around here.
