Dear Friends, We are in serious winter with nothing in bloom outdoors. Buds are showing in the Narc 'Cedric Morris'. Normally this will bloom in late Jan to Mid Feb. I wish I knew a sure fire way to propagate this. The last time I dug and separated bulbs I almost killed it. I gave a few away and now wish I hadn't. I really like this little charmer. Any advice appreciated. In the Greenhouse- incidentally kept above freezing and still above 40 now until the temps really bottom out. I have a single spike on Cryptostephanus vansonii. Unless I hand pollinate, I never get seed, but it self easily. Cute, but relatively small. Normally things are pretty slow in the greenhouse this time of year as the days get shorter and shorter, but due to the amazing BX, I have had seeds and bulbs to plant beyond my usual level. It is uncommon for me to order much but I have found at least one or 2 items in three recent offerings and succumbed. I think I made back my subscription in the last few weeks just by ordering some rare items at near give away prices. Too much temptation. I also took advantage of a very late season sale at Brent and Becky's Bulbs. Nice folks and half price. What more could I do ? Wishing warmth and good wishes to all. Best Jim W.. ps I am co-chair of the Species Iris Group of North America (SIGNA) Seed Exchange and busy preparing our offering to come out just after Christmas (we keep hoping). This year we have a really special assortment of over 50 selections and hybrids of I. versicolor, x ensata, x virginica, , x pseudacorus , and x laevigata in almost insane combinations. Check <http://www.signa.org/> after Christmas. Among other Irids we have a good supply of some other choice genera, too. Thanks -- Dr. James W. Waddick 8871 NW Brostrom Rd.
