Jim: Sorry for the slow reply. The Lilium davidii from the Chinese grocery store has a 14" stalk and 10" tall inflorescense. The photo may not show this since I was lying on the ground while taking the image. You mention that the Chinese grocery store form of Lilium davidii gets 18-24" tall and doesn't fall over. But your photograph suggests to me at least that the inflorescence itself might be almost 18" high. It's hard to imagine that inflorescence with only six inches of stem under it. : ) Am I missing something here?
