Being fond of bitter herbs in salad, I grew some rue two years ago. I tasted it and decided: this plant has no place in food I prepare -- it's not just bitter, it's disgustingly so. My attitude toward Alliums, and I do forage wild plants when I hike in the Sierra (or even around home), is: if it tastes or smells like an onion, eat it; if it doesn't, don't. David E
