It's interesting to watch the autumn crocus bloom, and continue blooming, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever recorded how many flowers per corm are produced by various species. With Crocus asumaniae, my 4 bulbs have produced 15 flowers, just shy of 4 flowers per corm! Crocus speciosus is similar, rounds 1 and 2 eaten by squirrels who have a special penchant for eating the flowers of this species, but round 3 is blooming now and more round 4 buds are coming. Photos taken recently of these two, and a third species, C. speciosus xantholaimos. http://plantbuzz.com/buzz/2009/… ...C. speciosus... flowers are HUGE... http://plantbuzz.com/buzz/2009/… ...C. speciosus xantholaimos, smaller blooms but gorgeous: http://plantbuzz.com/buzz/2009/… Mark McDonough Massachusetts, near the New Hampshire border, USDA Zone 5 antennaria@charter.net
