Ken's right to remind us about those other bees, the native bees. They too need all the encouragement they can get. And while we do have "other" bees here, they evidently do not pollinate many of my garden flowers. Last year someone pointed out to me that the big hymenopterous bad gals I was calling European hornets are not properly hornets at all (the common name be trashed). And I'm pretty sure the ones I call bumblebees are, at least some of them, carpenter bees. But of this I'm sure: when the majority of people say bee, they mean honeybee. And while it's nice to get to know the other ones, their presence does not compensate me for the loss of the honeybees. Jim McKenney
