I have an ongoing problem with rats eating my potted bulbs, especially ones in hoophouses and the greenhouse. I caught #5 last night. I worry that my cat could be injured by traps, but I have just thought of a way to diminish the risk. I bought a stack of large wire frames meant for making moss-lined hanging baskets. I use them to plop on top of flowering trilliums, erythroniums, tulips, and so on, that would otherwise be eaten by deer. Now I am using them over the rat traps. Diane Whitehead Victoria, B.C., Canada
