Dylan's comments are well made--and well taken. Rare plants in cultivation make US feel good; like we're doing SOMETHING. But in terms of conservation and reintroduction the value is questionable at best. Cultivated plants tend to be about as useful for conservation as a single artifact is to understanding a foreign culture. They ARE important for awareness--introducing and explaining the amazing diversity of plants. Carlo A.
