Neil, Your rounded shrub succulent on the first page of photos (2 pix) is Crassula arborescens. The "Euphorbia" (3 pix) is one of the cholla-type Opuntia species, a cactus that has somehow invaded South Africa. It is menacing enough here, where it belongs, but how dreadful it has found its way over there. They can be difficult to identify to species level.
