Turkish Tulips

"These early introductions were all of the garden tulip class
belonging to the /T. Gesneriana/ group, at that time cultivated in
variety by the Turks."

Other Tulipa species noted by Hall as being the subject of attention
early on and illustrated or described in herbals of the day: Tt.
australis, sylvestris, Oculis-solis 'St. Amans', Clusiana, saxatilis,
humilis.

T. griegii is noted by Hall as being a 19th century introduction,
ditto T. kaufmanniana. The latter was introduced near 1900, but no
specific date is given.
