My experience with H. papilio is similar to John’s: for the first two years it bloomed spring and fall. Then, I decided its pot was getting too crowded, so I divided and repotted. That’s the last it ever bloomed for me; instead, it is producing offsets, and the new pots are getting as crowded as ever. I was told that I am over-fertilizing the plants, which could have been, but I haven’t been this season. However, I was wondering – perhaps I have planted the bulbs too high. Should the bulb necks be at, above, or below ground (mine are in pots) level? David Ehrlich Redwood City, CA
