I'm not going to append a list of what's blooming now, because we've had a few days with temperatures rising into the 60s F, and several hundred species are open in the bulb frames. I'll be out giving them their second spring feed today, in between rainstorms. In the garden the smaller daffodils are open, many crocuses, and species peonies and magnolias showing their first color. Helleborus thibetanus flowered well these past few weeks, growing in a raised bed, shaded in the afternoon, along with many species peonies. All the early shrubs are coming into bloom, such as Corylopsis, a wonderful companion for bulbs that tolerate summer shade, since it has a "light" deciduous habit. Jane McGary Northwestern Oregon, USA
