Hello, last year I planted this species in gravel in a bulb frame, and this year it bloomed for the first time. See the image at http://ubcbotanicalgarden.org/potd/2006/… It and C. breviflorus (planted in open ground) produced flowers and fat seed capsules this summer. Last winter was -7C/20F at coldest here which didn't seem to bother either one. Winter conditions are quite different for each: C. epiphyticus in bulb frame culture has a dry winter, while C. breviflorus is subjected to copious cold rainfall, although soil is free draining. -- Brent A.
