I hate to be a poor sport, Jim, but you anticipated my response when you wrote " Just a bit of a pain to dig." Mine are enmeshed in the roots of some thirty year old Magonlia stellata. The tulips are only about four feet from the trunk of the Magnolia. The tulips were planted when the magnolias were little eighteen inch sticks. At that time the tulips were out in the sun. I'll give it a try sometime this weekend, but I make no promises. I'll try the patch of Tulipa whittallii and see what I can get. Jim McKenney
