Hi Dave and all,

You make an interesting point that I have noticed before. My Grandmother
Maude Shields, who was born in about 1870 in Grant county, Indiana, was a
life-long flower gardener. I remember her using the distinct terms just as
Dave noted:

daffodil -- large trumpet, yellow
jonquil -- small yellow flowers with several per scape
narcissus -- poeticus type with very small cup and large white perianth

If the Dutch invented this type of terminology, they did it quite some time
ago!

Regards,
Jim Shields
