Some years ago I purchased a snowdrop as Galanthus 'Atkinsii' from, I believe, Potterton & Martin. It has increased very well in the garden and is always in flower by New Year's Day. It has never produced any of the deformed flowers described by John Grimshaw. Nevertheless, am I incorrect in offering this plant, as I do some years, as 'Atkinsii'? John's note suggested that almost no plants under that name are 'Atkinsii' but are instead what is now called 'James Backhouse'. This clone is quite desirable here in the Pacific Northwest for its vigor, large size, and early flowering. However, I don't want Galanthophiles jumping all over me now for offering it under the wrong name. Jane McGary Northwest Oregon, USA
