To All, Spring is coming on strong here in Grass Valley. Almost all the various daffodils and narcissus and anemones are blooming now. Erythronium multiscapoideum is in late bud, early bloom, Dichelostemma capitatum is bursting out everywhere in the local foothills in numbers I have never seen before. We were up on Walker Ridge this weekend and the Fritillaria pluriflora were larger and more bountiful than we have previously seen and in peak bloom- absolutely beautiful palette mixed with hundreds of blooming Indian Warrior and thousands of Shooting Stars! The Fritillaria liliacea was also in peak bloom at Jepson Prairie. Near Middletown we found many blooming Fritillaria affinis and Allium falcifolium in a serpentine area. This looks to be one of the most floriferous springs for a long time. NANCY GILBERT
