Hi: Not only Italians use "Leopoldia" in cooking. I have met English people who did. As for the taste, it is quite soft and not like onion or garlic. It resembles mushrooms somehow. It is a lovely plant that has its charm, on a tall stem oblong brownish flowers are topped by tufts of sterile violet flowers. Very easy to grow and undemanding and easily propagated from its rather large round back seeds in autumn. Sun, well drained alkaline soil and a hot summer dormancy are its requeriments.
