Jane McGary hopes to lure mice away from her Crocus with sunflower seeds. Good luck, Jane! I fear you may simply foster a population boom. Here, we have fed birds in winter for years. It's a pleasure to watch them and to share with them. But the more birdseed we put out, the more seed the birds inevitably spill on the ground and the more plentiful the mice and Douglas squirrels become. Last winter, with regret, we put out much less birdseed. This spring, many more Crocus and other bulbs reappeared. Paige Woodward http://www.hillkeep.ca/ paige@hillkeep.ca
