Haemanthus bloom

Hi all,

Some of my Haemanthus seedlings are trying to bloom for the first time this
year. Three Haemanthus barkerae started scapes while in summer storage,
but they aborted. Now one H. coccineus is showing some reddish bracts and
a couple of white anthers(?) in the neck of the bulb. Is there any good
way to get the scape to elongate out of the neck? This pot is in the
greenhouse now.

Doug Westfall asked in another list about the affects if any on its next
year's bloom from setting seeds on a bulb (Haemanthus also). I'm curious
about that myself, since I want to do some crosses once my Haemanthus
plants are big enough to bloom.

Regards,
