Can you id this for me please - it is a volunteer, quite a few feet high by now. Multi-stemmed.

But @CG100 is correct Leycesteria formosa Himalayan honeysuckle

It has been negelected in UK gardens for years - it is/was regarded as somewhat sombre/funerial.
Amongst other shrubs the flowers can be quite striking, plus there is a gold-leaved form.

It seeds round with abandon - very dark red, almost black, very soft and fleshy berries something like 6mm across.

Thank you - very interesting - you're dead right, and it is not something I have ever seen before. It says online that it seeds around freely, that probably explains why it appeared.
