Dear All,

This unusual flower opened where I planted Typhonium giganteum. But this flower does not at all fit the pictures in the internet. What is this?
Your help is very much appreciated.

Bye for now

Maybe it's upside down and those are roots sticking up.

Right click on the picture (in Chrome), Google image search (lens). Usually useless, but this time it finds something that looks like the target. Aspidesta grandiflora.

Other similar ones Duvalia vestita, anemone stinkhorn.

Aspidistra would also fit that part of leaf one can see in pic 1.

Hello All,
Yes, it is Aspidistra grandiflora. I was so focused on a geophyte flowering without leaves that it did not cross my mind that this strange flower belongs to the Aspidistra leaves which are relatively far away from this flower. And no, the picture is not upside down.
Thank you, David for pointing out how to activate the lens App.
Here is another picture of the whole setting but the flower is barely visible.

Thank you for your help!

P.S. the plain green narrow leaves also seen on the picture belong to Hippeastrum papilio nearby.

Quoting the Lancashire botanist Gracie Fields:

"For years we had an aspidistra in a flower pot
On the whatnot, near the 'atstand in the 'all
...
It's the biggest aspidistra in the world"

Common, low light level indoor plant in the olden days.

Then I'm happy I wrote "in pic 1" where you actually can se the base of an aspidistra leaf;-) Nice flower - I only ever got Aspidistra attenuata to flower...
