Thank you Martin, I believe that is it.  I will probably be able to confirm it next year as I have another pot of seedlings planted at the same time but none of them look like they are large enough to bloom this year.  The foliage is identical as well.

The flower is about 8 cm across and the foliage is pleated.  This is the first year it has bloomed from seed planted last year.  It bloomed earlier, about two weeks ago, but the flowers were not as developed.  Height of the inflorescence is about 20cm, but again, this is the first year it has bloomed.

Very early in my experience.  I have never seen an Amaryllis belladonna bloom earlier than the latter half of August.

Mystery Bulbs / Mystery Irid

Received this from a seed exchange, not sure which one, as Orthrosantus polystachyus.  It does bloom in the morning, fading by mid afternoon.  I know at one point I had found a reference for an Irid that fit this flower type but I cannot remember what it was.  Any thoughts appreciated.

And today I have what looks what will be the last of my calochortus to bloom this year, though there are still several buds yet to open on my C. luteus plants.  Calochortus vestae opened this morning on a long, nearly 50cm stem.

I was happy to see that both forms of C. superbus I have are forming seed pods which I will be watching very closely.

Carlos,

I had really good germination this year, and more to plant next year.  Once they have a couple of year's growth and I repot I will send you some.

Thank you Carlos,

For many it is the first time they have bloomed.  I have noticed that for some, such as Ixia paniculata, they are much more robust and the flowers are much larger than when they were when grown in Seattle.  The climate here is much more to their liking.

Just opened on our terraza today.  I believe I got this one from Telos Rare Bulbs.  It is the first time it has bloomed for me.

Two forms of Calochortus subperbus blooming on May Day in a pot on my terraza.  I am not sure if they were from the same seed lot as I combined some when I moved to Spain to conserve space.  I like the contrast and will probably leave them together when I do my fall repotting.

I second the Crocus society and have been participating in the exchange for a couple of years now.  Always an interesting list though names are not always up to date from the donors.  It is a good place to start.

Bulb and Seed Exchanges / BX 471
April 16, 2024, 04:11:25 AM
I am trying to find a list of the offerings from BX 471.  The forum seems to have a gap from 463 through 478.  The search function brings up BX 482 when I enter 471.  If anyone can send a link to the list it would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Quote from: David Pilling on December 07, 2023, 10:53:15 AMJohn Cleese beat me to it

Cleese has had his moments for sure. He had a very funny TV show called Fawlty Towers that was well done and highly enjoyable. Much of the humor would not make it on regular American TV at the time. I think it was shown on the Public Broadcasting Station (PBS).

Another great English favorite was Are You Being Served.  It had no connection to the Monty Python gang, but it was very funny and entertaining.

Finally, there was a series called The Irish Resident Magistrate on PBS that was very worthwhile.

Ah, the good old days.....................
Loved all of these, and many more from the good old days of British humor.  I would add "To the Manor Born". "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin", the "Black Adder" series and so many more.  We brought many of these on DVD with us when we moved to Spain from the US, with our region free EU DVD player not being sure how accessible some might be.  We did not realize our DVD player was an EU model until we unplugged it when we moved and found it had an adapter for the US.  Got lucky when I bought it before we ever contemplated the move as it automatically detects input current and output format.
